Nasa‘s Heavy weight UARS satellite plunged to Earth over the Pacific Ocean, off the US west coast earlier Sunday, September 25, 2011

It appears likely the decommissioned craft came down between 03:23 and 05:09 GMT – with a best estimate of 04:16 (10:16 am BST)

If correct, this means any debris that survived to the surface probably went into water and not on land.

But no debris identified or recovered till now. However, if UARS re-entered many minutes after 04:16, it is possible debris could have reached the American landmass.

UARS, upper atmosphere research satellite, was deployed from the space shuttle Discovery 20 years ago on a mission for research.

Satellite could fall over US, Canada or Australia

by Hamid Pioneer on September 24, 2011

According to NASA, the six-tonne satellite UARS may fall over the Pacific Ocean early on Saturday.

NASA analysis (by prediction) that the satellite will hit on anywhere of Asia Pacific Ocean. But it was said the spacecraft expected to fall to Earth by about 0500 GMT (11 am BST). But it is impossible to say by precisely.

Orbit of UARS; could fall over Pacific Ocen

Dead NASA satellite, called the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), is falling uncontrolled toward Earth and is expected to crash to the ground today (Sept. 23) or Saturday. Agency officials are unable to pinpoint the exact time and location of the fall, but have said there is little risk of debris landing in populated areas.
NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 03:23 a.m. GMT Friday, Sept. 23 and 5:09 a.m. GMT Sept. 24. The Joint Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California said the satellite penetrated the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty.

The actual time of re-entry is difficult to predict because it depends on solar flux and the spacecraft’s orientation as its orbit decays. As re-entry draws closer, predictions on the date will become more reliable.

Because the satellite’s orbit is inclined 57 degrees to the equator, any surviving components of UARS will land within a zone between 57 degrees north latitude and 57 degrees south latitude. It is impossible to pinpoint just where in that zone the debris will land, but NASA estimates the debris footprint will be about 500 miles long.

Human casualty risk 1 in 3200.

Satellite pieces to hit Earth in a week: NASA

by Hamid Pioneer on September 18, 2011

A dead satellite “UARS” to fall to Earth in about a week- says U.S. space officials.

A six tonne, 20-year-old, dead satellite has fallen out of orbit and is seems to crash somewhere on Earth on or around 24 September, according to Nasa as they have been watching the 6-ton (5.4-metric ton) satellite named “UARS” closely. On Friday officials moved up their prediction for its arrival to Sept. 23, give or take a day.

NASA scientists have calculated the UARS satellite will break into 26 pieces as it gets closer to Earth. The odds of it hitting someone anywhere on the planet are 1 in 3,200. The heaviest piece to hit the ground will be about 350 pounds (159 kilograms), but no one has ever been hit by falling space junk in the past. One of them, “Sputnik 2” crashed on Earth in 1958, travelling from over New York to the Amazon in 10 minutes. It was viewed by many people and left a trail of brightly coloured sparks behind it.
However, most of the satellite will break or burn up before reaching Earth.

UARS was a Research Satellite, launched on Sept. 15, 1991, by the space shuttle Discovery. It was originally designed for a three-year mission, UARS measured chemical compounds found in the ozone layer, wind and temperature in the stratosphere, as well as the energy input from the sun. Together, these measurements helped define the role of Earth’s upper atmosphere in climate and climate variability.
The 35-foot-long, 15-foot-diameter UARS was decommissioned on Dec. 14, 2005.

NASA expects to give the public more detailed information early next week. For now, all continents except Antarctica could be hit by satellite debris. They also added the scientists of NASA would only be able to make more accurate predictions about where the satellite might land two hours before it enters the Earth’s atmosphere. (NASA & BBC)

UPDATE on September 21, 2011

(According to FOX news):

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is now dusting off plans for how to respond if big parts of a satellite should fall on the United States later this week. NASA now reports that the satellite could land as early as Friday, but the question continues to be where exactly it will hit and who should be concerned.

Just pray & see…………..what’s going to be done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One Mosquito Coil equals 100 Cigarettes: so dangerous

by Hamid Pioneer on September 15, 2011

One Mosquito coil equals 100 cigarettes:

Mosquito Coil vs Cigarette

In our Bangladesh this is most common to use mosquito coils in night or day for keeping out mosquito from home, even in this Sub-continent. Many companies are manufacturing much more affective Mosquito Coil for us. And many of us use it & keep us away biting of mosquito.

But we don’t know how serious of its use. Not many people know this that Only ONE MOSQUITO COIL is EQUIVALENT 100 CIGARETTS. This is how much terrible‼‼‼ Recently one investigation done by Malaysia in India, this is shown that the damage done by 1 Mosquito Coil is same as done by 100 cigarettes.  This report has been published in a conference named: Air Pollution and Our Health; organized by the Centre for Science and Environment in India.

But Why?

You can ask me that there is no substance tobacco in coils unlike cigarettes. But release too much harmful chemicals from burning Mosquito Coils. This is the fact‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼

Mosquito Coils are made of substance like coconut husk & sawdust and dyes to keep a coil burning for up to eight hours. Burning one mosquito coil would release the same amount of smoke as burning up to 137 cigarettes.

USED IN MANY BUG SPRAYS in mosquito coils:
These are Formaldehyde, Octachlorodipropyl ether and Bischloromethyl ether. The active ingredient in mosquito coils is Pyrethroid insecticides, used in many bug sprays. Pyrethroids are mostly harmless to humans, they can irritate the skin and eyes. Some people are allergic to them too. But it is the other chemicals used in some mosquito coils that cause worry. For example, formaldehyde affects the nose. Formaldehyde is a colourless, flammable and strong smelling gas. Inhaling it could cause watery eyes, throat discomfort, coughing, wheezing, nausea and skin irritation. Also, it can cause nasal or sinus cancer and even leukaemia. The amount of formaldehyde released from burning one mosquito coil can be as high as smoking 51 cigarettes. Formaldehyde is not an ingredient of mosquito coils but a By-product of burning them……..Octachlorodipropyl. (source, source 2)

Affects:

The pollutants released by mosquito coils exceed air safety levels. Exposure to the emitted smoke can pose significant acute and chronic health risks. A consultant paediatrician at Paediatric Centre in Thomson Medical Centre, was referring to a report in the US monthly. Breathing in too much smoke will increase the risk of asthma and cause persistent wheezing in children. Smokes emitted from mosquito repellent coil polluted indoor’s air and then our environments. Even this smoke is low miserable but gradually it makes airs more polluted as like as the affecting of Arsenic in human body.

No smoking No smoke

So this is the right time to know us about this. We who are lives in city may be understand this actually. But the illiterate people & villagers are in darkness point and we should serve them information about this.

By taking awareness, will be free from the risk of respiratory disease and air pollution, ultimately we can save our environment. So the Government and we should take the proper step right now…………..immediately.

Thanks all for reading positively.
